MLB is currently in the midst of its league championship series, meaning only the World Series is left before the 2024 season ends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In June, FanDuel, a unit of Flutter Entertainment (NYSE: FLUT), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/fanduel-could-buy-naming-rights-for-diamond-sports-networks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reached an agreement with Diamond<\/a> to replace Bally\u2019s (NYSE: BALY) as the sponsor of 18 RSNs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the media group dealing with bankruptcy and investors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ballys-should-sell-tropicana-rights-says-cbre-analyst\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pressuring the gaming company<\/a> to find avenues to conserve cash, the agreement with FanDuel is viewed as central to Diamond\u2019s efforts to clear Chapter 11 protection.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FanDuel_Financing_to_Diamond_Sports_Unclear\"><\/span>FanDuel Financing to Diamond Sports Unclear<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>For now, it\u2019s not clear exactly how much FanDuel will pay to Diamond Sports for the RSN naming rights. In November 2020, Bally\u2019s reached an agreement with Sinclair Broadcast Group to apply its name to 21 RSNs owned by the media entity. At that time it was reported that the regional casino operator agreed to pay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ballys-name-heading-to-sinclair-sports-networks-in-gaming-media-deal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$85 million over 10 years<\/a> to put its branding on the RSNs.<\/p>\n<p>In the filing with the bankruptcy court, Diamond said it would garner \u201ca significant rights fee payment and certain media and advertising spending commitments\u201d from FanDuel, and that the sportsbook operator gains rights to buy up to 5% of the broadcaster\u2019s equity when it exits bankruptcy protection.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p>(There is) the potential for future integrations of the Debtors\u2019 and FanDuel\u2019s respective products and offerings,\u201d said Eric Ratchman, Diamond\u2019s president of distribution and business development, in a legal document.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>FanDuel, the largest US online sportsbook operator, already has a solid cable television footprint with its FanDuel TV network. Previously, that was a horse racing-specific network, but it was rebranded into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/fanduel-to-rebrand-tvg-air-sports-betting-content-and-live-events-on-network-streaming-service\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">broader sports offering<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FanDuel_Deal_Practical_for_Diamond_Sports\"><\/span>FanDuel Deal Practical for Diamond Sports<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>With FanDuel, Diamond Sports gets a branding partner with the financial resources to sustain the relationship, and one that already enjoys significant brand recognition across the US.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>With Diamond Sports, there are sources of allure for FanDuel. The betting company would potentially be applying its name to RSNs that broadcast games of 38 Major League Baseball (MLB), NBA, and NHL teams.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the court filing, Rachtman noted there\u2019s \u201ca high degree of alignment\u201d between the areas in which the RSNs broadcast and the states in which FanDuel offers online sports betting.
