(Image: Jeopardy!)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Andrew Marchand of the <i>New York Post<\/i> first reported the news Monday evening, with <i><a href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/athletic\/jeopardy-james-holzhauer-set-to-join-the-athletic.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Awful Announcing<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>confirming the news. The sports media news site added that the man known as \u201cJeopardy James\u201d will post his first article on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Two years ago, Holzhauer gained acclaim as he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/james-holzhauer-responds-to-jeopardy-conspiracy-theories\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">won 32 straight games<\/a> on the popular television game show. While Ken Jennings holds the record winning streak at 74 games, Holzhauer nearly caught him in all-time regular-season earnings, $2.52 million to $2.46 million.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">That\u2019s because, according to the <em>Jeopardy!<\/em> Hall of Fame website, Holzhauer holds all of the spots in the top 10 all-time single-game winnings category. He\u2019s the only contestant to ever break $90,000 in winnings during a game, and his highest total was $131,127 \u2013 one of six times he earned more than $100,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">It got to the point where offshore sportsbooks offered odds on his performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Even after his run ended, Holzhauer has maintained a celebrity status, appearing on special <em>Jeopardy!<\/em> tournaments and other game shows. He\u2019s also active on Twitter.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"NewNormal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jeopardy_James_Athletic_Appeal\"><\/span>Jeopardy James\u2019 Athletic Appeal<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">A regular sports betting column at <i>The Athletic<\/i> from the professional gambler would be the latest high-profile move for the subscription-based online sports news hub. It features national and focused regional coverage in the US, Canada, and Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">According to <em>Crunchbase<\/em>, the site\u2019s founders have raised nearly $140 million in venture funding. Last September, executives revealed to CNBC that it finally reached the 1 million paid subscriber mark.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">The sports site launched five years ago and in January announced<a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/betmgm-nabs-another-media-deal-with-the-athletic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> an exclusive partnership with BetMGM.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p class=\"NewNormal\"><i>The Athletic<\/i> was built on engaging the reader and giving subscribers their money\u2019s worth (and more),\u201d wrote Nando Di Fino, who covers fantasy sports for the site, in an article explaining the BetMGM partnership and the newly formed sports betting section. \u201cWe built fantasy sports with the idea that you\u2019d feel your subscription was worth it for just that section alone. In April, DraftKings announced it will be the odds provider for Dan Le Batard\u2019s soon-to-launch <em>Meadowlark Media<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">PointsBet serves as the exclusive odds provider for <em>NBC Sports<\/em>, while <em>ESPN<\/em> has a partnership with William Hill and Caesars Entertainment. Bally\u2019s Corp. paid Sinclair Broadcasting for the branding rights to the regional networks formerly known as <em>Fox Sports<\/em> brands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">It\u2019s a move that makes sense for sportsbooks.
