She thinks that\u2019s a partial cause for declining marriage rates and many men not having sex like they used to.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Whitney said on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/mgm-resorts-ceo-bill-hornbuckle-says-cyberattack-behind-us\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">business network\u2019s<\/a> program \u201cSquawk on the Street\u201d that she\u2019s been analyzing consumer spending data for over 20 years, and that she recently came across data points that she\u2019s never seen before.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p class=\"p1\">Retail spending has been down all year, with restaurant spending, travel, services, and leisure being the bellwethers \u2014 they\u2019ve been the strong suits \u2014 but the fastest-growing leisure spend is fantasy sports and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/draftkings-ceo-sees-big-igaming-growth-ahead\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">online sports betting<\/a>,\u201d Whitney explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe negative impact is that it\u2019s all young men. I paralleled that with Pew Research that says that 63% of young men are single. That\u2019s the highest it has ever been,\u201d Whitney continued. \u201cFifty percent of those young men have no interest in dating, not even casually. And 30% of young men said they have not had sex in over a year and don\u2019t seem to care.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sports_Betting_Data_Points\"><\/span><b>Sports Betting Data Points<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Drive Research, a New York-based market research company, reported in August that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/poll-young-high-income-white-males-propelling-sports-betting-growth\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">online sports betting demographics<\/a> skew younger, male, and more affluent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Drive team concluded that nearly half (45%) of online sports bettors are aged 23 to 34, and nearly seven in 10 are male. A little more than half possess a college degree or higher, and two in three have an annual income of at least $50K.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The study found that about 92 million US adults are participating in the legal sports betting industry in the US. That\u2019s not necessarily a good thing, Whitney says.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p class=\"p1\">The woman who gained fame for forecasting the housing crisis believes fewer marriages and young men finding pleasure in sports gambling instead of women or a partner could have negative economic consequences in the future. Low household formation rates, Whitney said, will limit the number of buyers when older generations look to downsize.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWho are the buyers going to be?\u201d Whitney asked.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Texas_California_Could_Worsen_Problem\"><\/span><b>Texas, California Could Worsen Problem<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Sports betting began expanding outside of Nevada after the Supreme Court in May 2018 struck down a federal ban that had limited single-game sports gambling to Nevada. The law, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1992, grandfathered in Nevada sports betting while barring new states from legalizing such gambling.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p class=\"p1\">Since SCOTUS overturned PASPA, more than 30 states and Washington, DC have passed laws to regulate sports betting. But the nation\u2019s two most populated states, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/eagle1-acquisition-amends-california-sports-betting-pitch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California<\/a> and Texas, jointly home to nearly 70 million people, haven\u2019t yet moved to allow sports betting. Florida, the country\u2019s third-most populated state, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/online-sports-betting-now-open-to-all-in-florida\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">only this week commenced<\/a> sports betting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Whitney believes her sports gambling concerns as they relate to young men will only worsen in the coming years, as more states bring more players into the legal fray.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cHomebuilders are smart.
