The state\u2019s current sports betting law allows sportsbooks to offer lines on college sports, but only if the games do not involve state universities and are held outside the Garden State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/new-jersey-sports-betting-amendment-faces-long-odds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Question 2<\/a> asked New Jerseyans if they support allowing politicians in Trenton to pass legislation that would amend that regulation and bring in full college sports gambling. The people said no.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Question 2 was easily rejected, with more than 64 percent of voters saying sports betting should remain under its present regulatory environment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">New Jersey is today the largest sports betting market in the nation. However, this morning, that is certainly not the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As of the latest vote count, Murphy, which political bettors on PredictIt gave a roughly 95 percent chance of winning, trails Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli by just 1,193 votes.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>We\u2019re going to wait for every vote to be counted. That\u2019s how our democracy works,\u201d<\/strong> Murphy said in a brief speech to his supporters.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ciattarelli, a former New Jersey assemblyman, said he has \u201cone hell of a victory speech\u201d ready. But until \u201cevery legal count\u201d is counted, he\u2019ll hold off on delivering it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Tuesday\u2019s gubernatorial results in New Jersey came as a complete shocker to most political pundits and bettors. Nearly everyone, from the mainstream media to the pollsters, had Murphy easily winning a second term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>The 2021 election is being cited as a referendum on Democratic strongholds and their handling of the pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ciattarelli said at a recent campaign rally that there would be no coronavirus mandates under his administration \u2014 a great divergence from Murphy, who imposed strict regulations on people and businesses throughout 2020 and much of this year. Those restrictions impacted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/atlantic-city-casino-workers-march-in-support-of-clean-indoor-air\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atlantic City, where casinos<\/a> were forced to adhere to a glut of orders from the governor.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ciattarelli_Upset_Would_Pay_Handsomely\"><\/span><b>Ciattarelli<\/b> <b>Upset Would Pay Handsomely <\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Murphy\u2019s camp believes the governor will still emerge as the victor once all the votes are tallied. But if the Republican pulls off the upset, PredictIt bettors who wagered on Ciattarelli will win big.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p class=\"p1\">Prior to the polls opening, Ciattarelli\u2019s shares of winning the 2021 New Jersey gubernatorial election were trading at just seven cents. If he becomes the next governor, those shares would be redeemed at $1 each.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">PredictIt allows players to buy up to $850 worth of shares in a market.
