They did so in a fashion that did not show a problem gambling hotline and other verbiage to help stop problem gambling behavior, the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) said. Despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ohio-sports-betting-commission-wants-ads-checked-for-responsible-gaming\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">commission warning operators last month<\/a> to check their materials for compliance ahead last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ohio-sports-betting-16-apps-13-sportsbooks-and-771-kiosks-approved-for-jan-1-launch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sunday\u2019s universal launch date<\/a>, the three operators continued to violate those guidelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">\u201cThe sports gaming industry has received multiple reminders of the rules and standards for advertising and promotions, yet continues to disregard Ohio law,\u201d OCCC Executive Director Matt Schuler said in a statement. \u201cThese repeated violations leave the Commission no choice but to pursue administrative action to bring operators into compliance. The Commission takes responsible gambling seriously \u2013 and expects the industry to value the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Ohio regulators also found that the three operators violated state gaming guidelines by promoting \u201cfree\u201d or \u201crisk-free\u201d bonuses. Those kicked in when bettors needed to put up their own money first on a bet.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Compliance_Training_Also_Required\"><\/span>Compliance Training Also Required<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">In addition to seeking six-figure fines, the OCCC wants BetMGM, Caesars, and DraftKings to make sure all staff and associates are educated on Ohio\u2019s policies regarding responsible gaming messaging on promotions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">The fines are pending, as the operators have the right to request a hearing. Commissioners will vote upon any decision regarding a fine at an upcoming meeting. The money from any fine issued will go into the state\u2019s sports gaming revenue fund.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"NewNormal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fines_Keep_Coming_in_Ohio\"><\/span>Fines Keep Coming in Ohio<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">With the announcement, Ohio regulators have now issued five citations against operators since Dec. 14. All have been linked to violations of responsible gambling regulations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/draftkings-faces-350k-fine-in-ohio-after-sports-betting-promo-mailed-to-people-under-21\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DraftKings<\/a>, it\u2019s the Boston-based company\u2019s second notice in less than a week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">It received a notice for a $350,000 fine last week after the OCCC determined the operator sent more than 2,500 mailers promoting its app to individuals under 21, the minimum age to wager in the state. The mailer contained a QR code people could scan on their mobile devices to download the app and receive $200 in free bets after setting up an account.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">\u201cDraftKings is committed to the highest standards of consumer protections and responsible gaming. We do not comment on pending regulatory matters,\u201d a company spokesperson told <em>Casino.org<\/em> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Messages to BetMGM and Caesars seeking comment were not immediately returned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Previously, Schuler announced the state intended to fine Penn Sports Interactive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/penn-interactive-fined-250k-after-barstool-promotes-sports-betting-at-ohio-college\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$250,000<\/a> after Barstool Sports \u2013 the namesake for Penn\u2019s sports betting brand \u2013 promoted its sportsbook at an event at the University of Toledo.
