Sportsbooks had little hesitation in welcoming the action, as the experts felt \u2014 even amid Saint Peter\u2019s historic run over blue-blooded Kentucky \u2014 that the Cinderella would eventually falter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">But before last night\u2019s Elite Eight showdown between Saint Peter\u2019s and another NCAA basketball blue blood \u2014 North Carolina \u2014 oddsmakers reported that the Saint Peter\u2019s liability was a growing concern.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">With just three teams standing between them and the NCAA Men\u2019s Basketball Championship, BetMGM said yesterday that a Peacocks title would represent the company\u2019s largest loss in history.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Oddsmakers_Breathe_Sigh_of_Relief\"><\/span><b>Oddsmakers Breathe Sigh of Relief<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">It became quickly apparent yesterday evening that the Saint Peter\u2019s run was reaching its end. UNC dominated from the start, as the Tar Heels jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">UNC advances to a record 21st <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/duke-the-consensus-favorite-now-as-march-madness-reaches-the-final-four\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Final Four appearance<\/a>. The Tar Heels will meet rival Duke in the NCAA tournament for the first time \u2014 a shocking statistic that few knew before UNC\u2019s advancing Sunday night to meet the Blue Devils.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Saint Peter\u2019s goes home, but not before the Peacocks made the 2022 tournament one to remember. Their run also provided a bounty of winnings for sportsbooks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>BetMGM wasn\u2019t alone in reporting substantial action on Saint Peter\u2019s. Since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/2022-march-madness-debut-college-stars-profiting-off-likeness\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elite Eight was determined<\/a>, FanDuel said Saint Peter\u2019s accounted for 45% of its title futures.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For Sunday\u2019s game against the Tar Heels, bettors heavily backed the underdog Peacocks, being given anywhere from 7.5 to 8.5 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Caesars Sportsbook said 62% of the money was on Saint Peter\u2019s against UNC. Other books rooting for UNC yesterday included PointsBet, which said Saint Peter\u2019s was responsible for 61% of the money, and DraftKings, which reported 59% of the cash on the underdog.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Future_Unknown\"><\/span><b>Future Unknown<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Saint Peter\u2019s coach Shaheen Holloway has led the Peacocks since 2018. But following his team\u2019s historic run, his days at the school are likely numbered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Holloway\u2019s publicly disclosed salary for this year is $266,000. Rumors are swirling that nearby Seton Hall \u2014 the school Holloway graduated from in 2000 \u2014 is readying an offer to him as much as 10 times that compensation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Seton Hall is also where Holloway served as an assistant coach from 2010 to 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>\u201cI\u2019m not worried about that right now,\u201d<\/strong> Holloway said last night regarding Seton Hall. <strong>\u201cI\u2019m worried about those 15 young men whose hearts are broken.
