But that could change in the future. Illinois will be the fourth state in which Circa offers mobile sports wagering, joining Colorado, Iowa, and Nevada.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Circa_Illinois_Debut_Has_Been_Slow-Moving\"><\/span>Why Circa Illinois Debut Has Been Slow-Moving<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>State gaming boards are notoriously slow when it comes to approving new gaming permits. But that doesn\u2019t entirely explain why it\u2019s taking so long for Circa to debut in Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2022, Circa announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/circa-sports-gets-illinois-entry-with-help-from-full-house\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">plans to enter Illinois<\/a> via an arrangement with Full House Resorts. That accord paves the way for Circa to run a retail sportsbook at that casino and offer internet betting in the state. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/full-house-resorts-enters-illinois-opens-temporary-casino-in-waukegan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">temporary version<\/a> of that venue opened last month, but it must go through a probationary period to earn a nonrestricted casino license. When that happens, Full House can open a sportsbook.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The timing of that is beyond Circa\u2019s control. But if it is up and running in Illinois in August, it will be able to capture football season, which is meaningful because that\u2019s the most wagered-on sport in the US.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For now, Circa appears likely to stand pat, operating in four states. But the company has signaled a willingness to expand in attractive markets. There\u2019s talk that founder Derek Stevens\u2019 home state of Michigan could be next on the list, but that\u2019s just speculation.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Circa_Closes_Sportsbook_at_Golden_Gate\"><\/span>Circa Closes Sportsbook at Golden Gate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Closer to home, the Circa Sportsbook at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/vitalvegas\/sportsbook-shutters-at-golden-gate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Golden Gate Casino<\/a>, also owned by Stevens, was shuttered earlier this week. That was planned as part of the late 2020 debut of Circa, which is next door to Golden Gate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>There are Circa Sports kiosks in the Golden Gate, the world-famous sportsbook in Circa, and a retail book at The D, another Stevens-owned venue downtown.
