The company has raised $4.5 million in seed funding this year. The first $3.5 million was announced in March, and the last piece came this week, with EBCI Holdings investing $1 million from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ebci-holdings-gets-council-approval-to-launch-10m-gaming-tech-incubator-fund\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gaming technology incubator fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">It\u2019s not just the money that the commercial gaming arm of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians brings to the table that\u2019s valuable. Led by CEO Scott Barber, EBCI Holdings\u2019 executive team and board members have more than 200 years of gaming industry experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\"><strong>\u201cAnybody that studies the industry knows that the waters are a little bit choppy right now due to the arms race that is customer acquisition, and I think microbetting opens up an opportunity to think differently and creatively about the customer segments in being a little bit more scientific as to the approach and also using alternate means of promotional spending, customer acquisition.,\u201d <\/strong>said Barber, a longtime Caesars Entertainment executive, to <i>Casino.org<\/i> Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">\u201cFrom the day we first met Kelly and (cofounder and CFO) Drew Williams, we loved the business model and the people running it. The company provides a slew of data to the broadcast. When a batter like Shohei Ohtani steps up to the plate, you see metrics like the chances of them getting on base updated with each pitch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Pracht worked for HP for nearly 20 years helping build supercomputers. But a long-term goal had been to take that technology, apply it to sports, and change how people experience the games they watch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">The company was founded in May 2018, the same month the US Supreme Court struck down the\u00a0Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) and opened the door to sports betting in all 50 states. For the next two years, Pracht and her team did \u201chard-core development\u201d on building an AI platform to determine what would happen next in a sporting event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">\u201cThat was our passion, and it was the goal,\u201d Pracht told <em>Casino.org <\/em>Thursday. \u201cIt was a really, really powerful element that not only enhanced what we were experiencing as fans, but had this whole element of how to predict the next play.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p class=\"NewNormal\"><strong>And we didn\u2019t know at the time that that was called micromarkets. We just knew that fans wanted to bet in the moment, fans wanted to interact in the moment, and that\u2019s what we were after.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Last year, nVenue was selected as one of 10 participants in the inaugural class of Comcast NBC Universal\u2019s SportsTech Accelerator program. That gave the early-stage company access to teams, sports leagues, and members of the sports betting industry. It also led to their engine being used last year by NBC Sports, which led to the company partnering with Apple TV for baseball this season.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"NewNormal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Thousands_of_Betting_Opportunities_Available\"><\/span>Thousands of Betting Opportunities Available<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">What viewers see in those MLB broadcasts is \u201cthe tip of the spear\u201d as far as what nVenue can do, Pracht said. The company\u2019s engine is capable of generating \u201cthousands\u201d of betting opportunities per game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">\u201cOur product lends itself to media, where people are watching. But it also lends itself to betting, where people can start to predict what is going to happen on the next pitch, on the next down, on the next five minutes in basketball,\u201d she said. \u201cBecause that\u2019s what fans do. That\u2019s how we want to bet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/jake-paul-partners-with-joey-levy-to-launch-micro-betting-site-betr\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Betr<\/a> strives to be a business-to-consumer product, nVenue is looking to be a business-to-business product that would power the microbetting platform for an existing sports betting operator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">Since the PASPA ruling opened the doors to the multi-billion-dollar US sports betting industry, analysts and experts have always seen in-game wagering as the end goal and the more lucrative side of the business. Those insiders cite data showing in-game betting commands up to 70% of the market in Europe. However, it has yet to gain anywhere near that in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">But Pracht said it\u2019s not just about offering markets for the sake of offering them that will make microbetting grow.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p class=\"NewNormal\"><strong>That\u2019s where we\u2019re going to most benefit this industry,\u201d<\/strong> Pracht told <em>Casino.org<\/em>. <strong>\u201cBecause when you talk about a microbet, and you talk about betting in the moment, a fan doesn\u2019t want just a firehose of irrelevant, boring, non-exciting bets. They want to bet on the moment that they\u2019re watching, and they want the (operator) to understand why it\u2019s exciting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">\u201cAnd that takes some special skill. Not just saying mathematically we can give you every bet in the entire world. But to be able to help our clients serve the bets that are right for the fans. That\u2019s going to, in our opinion, increase engagement, increase time watching, increase time betting. It\u2019s going to increase the lifetime value of these fans ultimately for the operators that can really get microbets right.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"NewNormal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Resolving_the_Latency_Issue\"><\/span>Resolving the Latency Issue<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">One of the biggest challenges to microbetting in the US is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/streaming-services-gain-viewers-but-latency-a-sports-betting-concern\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">latency issue<\/a> that causes live television broadcasts to be delayed as they are aired. It\u2019s especially prevalent when watching through an online streaming service, where the delay can reach 30 seconds or more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"NewNormal\">For some fans, it\u2019s a slight inconvenience.
