(Image: <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For over a year, the Rhode Island-based gaming company Bally\u2019s has been cobbling together sports betting pieces via acquisitions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ballys-becomes-mlb-betting-partner-ahead-of-2021-season-start\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and inking deals<\/a> with professional leagues aimed at increasing the visibility of the rejuvenated brand. Through an agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ballys-boosts-sinclair-partnership-more-content-coming\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sinclair Broadcast Group<\/a>, the Bally\u2019s name is on approximately 20 regional sports networks (RSNs), marking one of the most overt arrangements between a gaming company and a media enterprise to date.<\/p>\n<p>In Colorado, Bally\u2019s is leveraging its control of three casinos there to test the Bally Bet app.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\">\n<p><strong>Bally Bet users will be able to earn points betting on sports that they can redeem for gaming, dining, retail and other amenities at Bally\u2019s Golden Gates, Golden Gulch and Mardi Gras casinos located in Black Hawk, Colo.,\u201d<\/strong> according to a statement issued by the company.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The operator adds the Colorado debut is a \u201cbeta launch\u201d that will emphasize \u201cdeployment, testing, and refinement,\u201d and it will be accompanied by limited marketing. The company is looking to roll out the app in another three states before the end of the year, though it didn\u2019t mention which states.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bally\u2019s owns its eponymous venue on the Atlantic City Boardwalk and New Jersey is the sports betting hub of the US. Some of the company\u2019s pending acquisitions will enable it to enter other fast-growing sports wagering markets, including Illinois and Indiana.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Big_Test_for_BetWorks_Buy\"><\/span>Big Test for Bet.Works Buy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The debut of Bally\u2019s Bet in Colorado is also the first consumer-facing test for the operator\u2019s $125 million cash and equity acquisition of sports betting platform provider Bet.Works, which was announced last November.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>That transaction was almost universally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/ballys-stock-decline-could-be-buying-catalysts-remain\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">applauded by analysts<\/a> and is viewed as an essential piece of Bally\u2019s designs on becoming an omnichannel, vertically integrated gaming outfit. In a bid to boost margins and lower costs, more sportsbook operators are looking to bring technology in-house \u2014 exactly what Bally\u2019s is doing with Bet.Works.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bet.Works\u2019 clients include gaming operators in Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, and New Jersey.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Colorado_Makes_Sense\"><\/span>Why Colorado Makes Sense<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In addition to the operator controlling three casinos there, launching Bally\u2019s Bet in Colorado is sensible for other reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Those include the state\u2019s status as a fast-growing, operator-friendly environment. Since going live in May 2020, sports wagering in the state generated a handle of $2 billion as of March 31, the most recent period for which data is available.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Colorado is a practical place to launch a mobile sportsbook app, because online wagering has been part of the state\u2019s sports betting lexicon since the beginning, and bettors there are taking advantage.
